London Fire Brigade reported on their incident page that
Firefighters tackled a fire at a flat above a shop on Snakes Lane East in
Woodford Green.
The
alarm was raised by the occupant of the flat on the second floor who was woken
by her smoke alarm sounding and discovered smoke in her kitchen. She left the
property before the arrival of the Brigade and was treated at the scene by the
London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters
wearing breathing apparatus located and extinguished the fire which was in a
flat on the first floor. The property was left party damaged by the fire,
which is believed to have been caused by a pan being left on the hob in
the kitchen of the first floor flat.
A
London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “You should never leave cooking
unattended – if you have to leave the room or the house, turn the heat off.”
“Fortunately
the alarm was raised by a smoke alarm sounding. Everyone should have at least one smoke alarm on
every level of their home and the safest option is to have those linked
together. This will give the earliest warning if there is a fire in your home.”
