London Flat Fires in Wapping and Gospel Oak were caused by cooking! Unattended cooking is one of the biggest causes of Flat Fires.
The first, in Wapping was
a small fire in an oven on the 4th floor, it is believed to have
been caused by unattended cooking.
The second, in Gospel
Oak destroyed a 3rd floor Flat, the Fire is believed to have been
caused by items on a hob being ignited when a hotplate was accidentally turned
on.
A Fire in one Flat can
quickly spread to another so it is imperative that all Residents take care
whilst cooking and never leave the Kitchen unattended when the oven and hob are
on.
All London Blocks
of Flats and Houses converted into Flats should have an up-to-date Fire
Safety Risk Assessment – it is the law. As part of the Fire Risk Assessment
there should be a Fire Safety Emergency Plan for the Building. All members of
the family should know the Plan so in times of Emergency there is no hesitation.
