A Holborn Office Caught Fire, Which Became Complex Due to the Layout of the Building

A Holborn Office Fire appears to have started within a ceiling void on the third floor and subsequently spread throughout the voids. 150 Firefighters were call to the scene as this was a complex Fire due to the age and layout of the building.
London Fire Brigade reported on their incident page that the roof of the six-storey building and a staircase from the third to the fifth floor were destroyed by the Fire. Half of the third and fourth floor were also damaged. Around twenty-eight people left the building before the London Fire Brigade arrived and 11 people were evacuated from nearby flats as a precaution. There were no reports of any injuries.
"Firefighters worked throughout the night in very challenging and arduous conditions to prevent the Fire from spreading to key areas of the historic building, while also trying to prevent water damage.
"Crews remained on scene throughout Sunday damping down and cutting away. They also carried out salvage work to minimise damage to the building.”
Fire investigators have now completed their examination at the scene and believe the cause of the Fire to be accidental, although the exact cause has currently been recorded as undetermined.
The Fire appears to have started within a ceiling void on the third floor and subsequently spread throughout the voids, increasing the challenge for our Firefighters with both Firefighting and protecting the contents of the building. To read more click here
London Fire Risk Assessments comments:
The compartmentation of a building is crucial, if it is not intact a Fire can spread rapidly through a Building. A good Fire Risk Assessment for a Building will identify any deficiencies within the compartmentation and these will be recorded in the Fire Safety Management Plan – Significant Findings. It is vital that the identified ‘Responsible Persons’ acts on these findings to ensure the safety of the occupants and the Building itself.

A Fire Accident Took Place in a Residential Care Home in Hackney London

A fire in a residential care home, hackney london flags up the importance of a fire safety emergency plan for vulnerable persons.

A fire broke out at a residential care home of three floors on Victoria Park Road, Hackney. Half of a room on the second floor was damaged by Fire. Twenty one people were evacuated from premises by Staff before the arrival of the Brigade.
It is imperative that premises that provide accommodation for vulnerable persons such as Residential Care Homes, Nursing Homes and Sheltered Accommodation have a Fire Safety Emergency Plan in place. The Staff should be fully trained on the Plan so as to act quickly and effectively if and when a Fire breaks out.
The Fire Safety Emergency Plan should be part of the Fire Safety Risk Assessment for the premise along with a Fire Safety Management Plan – Significant Findings and a Fire Safety Policy.
The Fire Safety Risk Assessment must be kept up to date and reviewed and revised when necessary. If you don’t have a Fire Safety Risk Assessment then you should appoint a third party competent person to carry out an inspection for you.
When you carry out a general internet search many London Fire Safety Services come up offering all kinds of deals – but STOP! Before you appoint the ‘best deal’ make sure they are qualified to do the job because if they are not it may affect your insurance for your premise.
One of the most reliable sources to find a ‘Qualified’ Fire Risk Assessor is the Institution of Fire Engineers. They have a Register of ‘Approved’ Fire Risk Assessor who have proved competency in Fire Safety and are qualified to carry out Inspection/Audits.
London Fire Risk Assessments are not only ‘members’ of the Institution of Fire Engineers they are on the ‘Approved’ Fire Risk Assessors Register so you can be sure you are in safe hands. They are not affiliated to any Fire Protection Equipment Supplier so you can be confident that what they say you require to comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 you do actually need it!
LFRA also offer a ‘Dual’ Fire, Health & Safety Risk Assessment package – so it could be your one stop shop for Risk Assessments – call now on 01689 890879.

Check Whether Your Fire Risk Assessor Is Qualified or Not

At this time it is imperative that you check the accreditations of the person that will be carrying out the Fire Safety Inspection on your premise.

If you carry out a general Internet search so many London based Fire Safety Protection Companies come up offering all kind of Fire Risk Assessment ‘deals’. But wait - don’t be tempted by price, do your research and double-check the Company’s’ accreditation and most importantly the accreditation of the Fire Risk Assessor carrying out the Fire Safety Inspection.

There are only 337 registered, qualified Risk Assessors in England!

An example for you to consider:
Just recently a leading Fire Alarm Company’s Fire Safety Consultant, who was carrying out a Fire Risk Assessment, contacted London Fire Risk Assessments asking; “I was hoping you could assist me with the following. Does a building that would of complied with fire safety/building regulations at the time of construction, need to be upgraded to meet current legislation? Mainly with regard to fire doors, means of escape and final exits.”

Now, should this Fire Safety Consultant be asking an Independent Fire Risk Assessment Company these kind of questions? Should he not know the answer or even ask one of his peers within his own Company? More importantly should he be carrying out Fire Safety Inspections and compiling Fire Risk Assessments?

One of the best places to find a ‘Qualified’ Fire Risk Assessor is the Institution of Fire Engineers. On their homepage you will find a Risk Assessors Register – just enter your postcode and a list of ‘Qualified’ Assessors will come up in your area. Alternatively you can contact London Fire Risk Assessments they are members of the Institution of Fire Engineers, Registered as Fire Risk Assessors and fully insured to do the job.  Contact their friendly team now on 01689 890879 for a free quotation.
