All London Pubs, Clubs and Restaurants should have a Fire Safety Risk Assessment – it’s a legal requirement! A suitable and sufficient Fire Safety Risk Assessment will identify the venues Smoking Policy and this should be taken seriously and managed accordingly as cigarettes are a common cause of Fire!

A Fire at a Pub in Woodberry Down destroyed the lean-to attached to the Pub and a small part of the fascia of the Building. The Fire was thought to have been caused by a carelessly discarded cigarette, which ignited a sofa!

Cigarettes are a common cause of Fires but so many people fail to ensure they are stubbed out properly.

·         If you are the identified ‘Responsible Person’ then you must ensure all your Staff are trained in your venues Smoking Policy and that they follow an end of day procedure.

If the worst happens as in the case outlined above it is imperative that your Staff are trained in the Evacuation Plan. Your Fire Safety Risk Assessment should have a Fire Safety Emergency Plan included in the report – it will detail what you should do in the event of a Fire.
