The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
Article 18. – (1)
The responsible person must, subject to paragraphs (6) and (7), appoint
one or more competent persons to
assist him in undertaking the preventive and protective measures.
Article 9. –
(1)
The responsible person must make a suitable and sufficient assessment of
the risks to which relevant persons are exposed for the purpose of identifying
the general fire precautions he needs to take to comply with the requirements
and prohibitions imposed on him by or under this Order. Case law has determined that the risk
assessment must be carried out by a person competent
to assess the risk and report the finding.
If you are identified as the ‘Responsible Person’ for your premise
it is your responsibility to
appoint a competent person to carry
out the Fire Safety Inspection in order to compile a ‘suitable and sufficient’
Fire Safety Risk assessment for your London premise. But where do you go to
find such a person??
One of the best places to find such a person/ company is the Institution of Fire Engineers. They are
an independent body that monitor Fire Risk Assessors and have a Register of
qualified persons/companies on their website. All you have to do is put in your
postcode and a list of Fire Risk Assessors in your local area will come up. You
can then be assured that you will receive a ‘suitable and sufficient’ Fire Safety Risk Assessment.
If however, you use the internet to search for a Fire Risk Assessor in
London you will probably get all a wide range of ‘fabulous’ offers! For
example; Fire Risk Assessments for under £100, Check List solutions and DIY
templates. Don’t be tempted - before you book a Fire Safety Inspection ask a
few questions – Are you qualified with the Institution of Fire Engineers? Do
you carry Insurance? Will the Fire Risk Assessor who carries out the Fire
Safety Inspection be qualified? If in doubt check it out!!!!
London Fire
Risk Assessments are qualified with the Institution of Fire
Engineers and carry both Public Liability and Professional Indemnity
Insurance. We will provide you with the following Fire Risk Assessment package,
which is required by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005;
- Fire Safety Risk Assessment
- Fire Safety Policy
- Fire Safety Emergency Plan
- Fire Safety Management Plan that identifies the significant findings.
